so i never thought i'd say this, but i'm actually debating on getting a liter bike for my next upgrade...
my dream bike is still a daytona 675 or something of the like, but if the price isn't right i think i'm just gonna go up to 1k

i've been scouring craigslist recently and the prices for most 600s are not that far off from 1ks, give or take depending on the year.

currently i'm looking into r1's, mostly because they just look frickin' awesome, and eric and mo have the cbr and kawi 1ks.

best deal i saw so far is an 02 for 4k, looks well taken care of with a LONG list of upgrades (including ohlins! and a graves full system exhaust, etc etc.)

anyway, thoughts? (oh i probably won't upgrade for another few months, maybe middle of next quarter before summer starts?)

ahahaha
everyone wants a liter bike but they're not all that practical for the street. how much are you looking to spend....i know a few people with d675s that want to sell.

keep in mind upgrades don't mean anything to a bike unless you're into it. full ohlins doesn't do much if it hasn't been refreshed in the last two years or so and it's set to your weight (lesson learned when i was looking into suspension upgrades).

but....that being said, any of the liter bikes will do. they all have their ups and downs. pick the one that you feel most comfortable riding and call it a day. i'd personally never get a liter bike unless i had more skills / track time. you're never going to need to go past 150mph anyways  Tongue

Its perfectly practical for the street lol. I dont ride past 150, hell I dont go that fast really ever (even though the cops seem to think so). Its sooooo smooth and rides soooo nice. Thats why I love mine. Dont bother around too much with upgrades. Just a pipe and youll be happy. Thats all my 10 had. You can score an /06 600 for around 5k or 05 1000s for about the same if you really look. If youre set on the R1, lol look away. If not, Ill let ya know what I see. Been a few good deals up lately.

Im just gonna put this out there, Kawi, naaaaaaasty mill. Absolutely BEAST. lol.

And fair warning, if you ride a liter bike and get used to it, dont ride anything smaller and be serious because youll just get pissed and go, WTF IS THIS?!?!? ahhahaha. Nah, its all fun. I think I saw a 675 for a lil cheap too on CL.

points taken. and exactly my point, there isn't too much of a price difference between a 600 and a liter (except probably insurance...D:) but yeah i'm definitely looking into daytonas first, and if not then i'll see what i can find later on.

there don't seem to be many daytonas on the market lately though...

I've been ready for a liter bike for about 10k miles.... Just dont wanna drop any money on bikes while im in school....But I changed my gearing (1 up 3 down) and it made a huge difference and has curbed my hunger for more power.

More power to you though.. Post pics of whatever you get.

ditto on HK.  I love Daytona's.  My buddy has one and I secretly want it. I'm hoping that will be my next bike.  That or a newer GSXR-750.  My other buddy has one of those and I loved it when he let me ride it.  I'm ready for one, but I'm in the middle of a home search so I have to just stick it out for right now.

All have valid points, but Im just saying, I LOVE the torque and horsepower. Its smooth. Not peaky, not rough. It comes on and stays on.

i'm pretty sure you meant -1 in front +3 in back for faster acceleration right?

if i ever got a liter bike....it'd have to be either an RSV4 or S1000rr (assuming they fix the manufacturing issues)

Listen to the sound of the RSV4....dead sexy

haha....no one's saying liter bikes are bad....they're just overkill for the street IMHO.....real power you won't ever use (unless you stay in first gear all the time and you'd still be breaking speed limits)  Tongue

I4s don't get any real torque or power down low.....liter bikes have the crazy torque compared to 600s because of displacement Wink

VTwins on the other hand.....I'm pretty sure an 848 has more torque than a CBR1000rr down low, but it loses out on top end.

damn lonny...how much are they paying you @ extension?  Grin

i test rode a ZX10r at the moto show - it is stupid fast (that is before hitting powerband). Do you need a 150hp/sub400lb moto for the street? absolutely not. but I say throw practicality out the window when you are moto shopping. It is all about the fun/rush/grin factor. If that takes 1000cc - go for it!!!

 my 2 cents
