Not sure if some of you heard about the Honda CBR 250 RR -- Single cylinder 250 honda is bringing to compete with the Ninja 250R

Seems like a bit of a late in the game move, but sounds like it'll be a really good choice opposed to the ninja.

I havn't seen any offical HP specs, but have heard speculation of 25.96 HP, but I'm sure being a single cylinder it'll be lighter and make more torque than Kawi's 250.

Engine type:    1 cylinders, 4-stroke, Single
Displacement:   249 cc (15.21 cubic inches)
Bore × stroke:   2.99 inch × 2.17 inch (oversquare - shortstroke)
Cooling system:   Oil/air cooled
Power:   25.97 HP (19.1 kW) @ 8500 rpm
Torque:   23 Nm (16.96 lb-ft) @ 7000 rpm
Throttle:   Cable operated
Valves
Valve train:   DOHC, variable
Valves per cylinder:   4
Fuel and ignition
Sparks per cylinder:   1
Fuel supply system:   Fuel injection
Ignition type:   Digital CDI
Compression:   10.7:1
Engine mounting:   Transverse
Lubrication system:   Wet sump
Gear box:   Manual 6-speed
Clutch:    Wet, multiple discs, cable operated
Final drive:   Chain
Starter:   Electric

I think a real big game changer for the 250 market is the fact that this bike has ABS -- which adds another piston up front, and automatically actuates both front and rear brakes during normal braking. Which is pretty damn cool, I know i've seen some impressive things on the ABS system on the 600rr, and if this is anything like that -- this may not only be a cool beginner bike, but might also be a really cool bike to swing around the track.

a lot of reviews are favoring the kawi over the honda.
honda seems to be underpowered and doesn't seem to be as solidly built (which is surprising, since it's a honda)
but to be fair, kawi's been in the 250 business for over a decade and honda just jumped in
so i'd give them a couple years before i expect to see something amazing to compete with the kawi.

one thing's for the sure though: the kawi's dashboard is way too antique for my taste. very minor issue though.

i like that the honda is fuel injected and an air cooled single. Don't have to worry about jets/needles or radiator fluid.  Smiley

prefer the ninja in the looks department though.

Is the bike even in the US yet? I havn't seen any reviews.

I don't think horsepower is really a problem with 250's -- its there torque, they always lack.

here's a good one
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/9/9134/Motorcycle-Article/Honda-CBR250R-vs-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R.aspx

horsepower is pretty important for a 250 because it determines their ability to keep up on the freeway. the kawi's already rev extremely high on the freeway and the cbr revs even higher. yikes.
torque is more important for getting up to freeway speeds.
