Just curious Cheesy
since we talked about MPG

I guess I'll start
City Cruisin (to and from school): 4-6k
Should I be shifting at 7-8? in my powerband to get more power, in case i need it?

Highway : I'm usually at 7kish on 6th gear going 90.

I feel like I'm pretty conservative, but idk, depends on my mood, and how much gas I want to save haha  Tongue

well let me see, let me check my gauges...oh! wait! don't have any =P
but i ride relatively conservatively on a day to day basis, unless there's someone to race.

so i'd guess in the 4-5k range. but i'm a v-twin so my rpm's don't go as high as your inline 4 does.

depends where i'm at and what i'm doing

going up La Jolla Village Drive up the hill.....I shift at 12,500 rpms in first gear.....going around 67 mph  Grin

Normally though....I tend to ride first gear a little longer but I shift around 5-8k I guess.
You have more than enough power without being in your powerband to pass cars....not sure why you'd need it....
My powerband is the whole range....ahaha :p Torque is pretty much flat from 3000 rpms to redline for inline triples  Grin

I stopped paying attention a long time ago, it depends how quickly i want to accelerate really..

On the street, usually around 5-10k
On the track, usually at red line or whenever i accidentally bounce off the rev limiter

If I did that and got caught, Id get thrown in jail for wreckless operation and a blantant disregard of posted speed limits = )

@Jonny, ride comfortably. You can pass a car pretty easy at 5k on a 600. Savin gas, shift even lower down. I shift round 3k if Im goin for fuel mileage.

The key to MPG on the freeway is steady throttle imput and not going super fast. I find my 10s best spot for it is cruisin 70-75 and I can land almost 50mpg all highway. Prolly COULD get better if I went 60, but wtf is that lol!

haha....totally agree with you....i just love accelerating up that hill though....i slow way down before i hit the bridge just in case :p.
agree with the highway thing to....if you really want to save gas, be gentle on the throttle (roll it open don't yank it open) and cruise at a reasonable speed. if you want to get extra ballsy, you can draft behind trucks and stuff (i usually notice a 2-3mph increase when i pull up behind a truck at the same throttle position). tucking in behind your windscreen helps too.....our bodies make for some HUGE air brakes.

@everyone.....ride with what you're comfortable with. knowing what other people shift at won't help as 1. bikes are different 2. different riding styles

aite cool, btw random question, before you put on your gear do you start your motorcycle and let it stand idle?
I see guys doing this and reving it before they get on. I thought fuel injected bikes, there is no worry about heating up the bike before riding?
inputs?

I ALWAYS let mine stand and idle until 120F at the least before I put the bike in gear. Perfect time to put on gear and let it warm up.

With FI bikes, you dont have to worry about using a choke and all of that stuff. I will ALWAYS let my bike properly warm up though. Id rather not sieze up my motor or warp something in them.

Its called an operating temperature for a reason = )

depends how much of a rush i'm in.....if i don't let it warm up, i go easy on the revs when shifting until it gets to operating temp.

normally though, i just start the bike put on my gloves and slowly head out of the garage / parking lot and that's enough time for it to warm up.

here's a funny observation.....99% of the people who drive cars don't let them warm up before heading out...

true story, i've just started getting into the habit of letting my car warm up before i start driving it. feels very weird and awkward. usually i take that time to look through my ipod and put on music or something.
