When: We will meet on November 8th (11/08/09) at 8:30am and we will leave by 9:00am. The from campus until the end of Ortega according to google maps says that it will take 1 hour and 45 minutes. Expect this trip to last about 5 hours which means we will stop off right before we start that actual Ortega Hwy, re-cooperate, and Take a rest at the end of the mountain and take another break. Expect to be back at around 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

Just to clarify some of the things eric touched on in his post..
Keep this in mind when on canyons.


1. Don't try to keep up with anyone in front of you that's riding faster. Ride your own ride.
We will all meet up at the top of the canyon, an area called the "lookout" don't worry, you wont miss it.
You'll see it when we get there. So don't be worried to get separated from the group.
2. Keep a distance between you and the person in front of you.
3. If someone is faster than you, signal for them to pass you when its safe.
4. Do not pass anyone without them signaling.

Wear whatever gear you think is appropriate. I don't drag knee on canyons, so I usually just wear my riding jeans to avoid any temptation.

We'll ride in staggered/group formation on the freeway - but once we get on the canyon I'll signal for single file and that will be maintained until we exit the canyon.

Ortega is a pretty technical route, there are plenty of cliffs, rocks and guard rails to make things dangerous. Not really a ride for beginners, again, ride your own ride - Don't push your limits on a canyon, save that for the track.

The post says Ortega but you mention Palomar twice in the description. Is the route through Palomar first then to Ortega? Me and my buddy will be coming through but I just wanted to clarify.

Lol don't worry about it dude, and do hockey games usually end at that time? Crazy. But yeah, just try to be there before 9 so we can have clear traffic the whole way through.
